    I’d call the vet and ask whether a rabies test is advisable, just in case.

    Yup, been there, done that. They directed me to the guy in the state health department who deals with rabies, and he told me that they don’t worry about rodents with rabies. He said something like this:

    “Generally speaking, rabies is transmitted between animals by fighting. It’s most commonly found in the larger animals like racoons and skunks, and if a large animal like a racoon or skunk gets into a fight with a rodent, the rodent’s going to be killed, not left alive to infect others.”
