It’s hard to take seriously a City Council candidate with no working Web site

One of the candidates for the at-large seat in the upcoming Boston City Council election is Matthew Geary. Given that he’s a 22-year-old college student and an honest-to-goodness Socialist, it’s hard to take him seriously, and the odds of him winning the election are approaching zero. But he makes it even harder to take him seriously when he can’t manage to keep his campaign Web site, www.votegeary.com, up and running. It’s not just that the server is down; the Internet root name servers don’t even have any name servers registered for the votegeary.com domain.

I managed to find pages from his site cached at Google, indicating that the site was up and running as recently as three days ago. I wonder what happened.

Another pet peeve: In the copy of his site’s “contact us” page cached at Google, there’s no email address to reach him or anybody else involved with his campaign. In this day and age, being able to contact a candidate by e-mail is mandatory. In my book, no e-mail address = no vote for the candidate.
