I’m a bit late to the party since early voting has already commenced, but here are my endorsements for the November 8, 2022 election in Massachusetts. I am only endorsing in races where I am voting. This is a follow-up to my endorsements in the primary election.
- Governor: Maura Healey and Kim Driscoll (D)
- Attorney General: Andrea Campbell (D)
- Secretary of State: write in Tanisha Sullivan (D); William Galvin has been doing a terrible job for years and does not deserve your vote, but neither do the other candidates on the ballot
- Treasurer: Deborah Goldberg (D)
- Auditor: Diana DiZoglio (D)
- Representative in Congress, seventh district: Ayanna Pressley (D)
- Councillor, third district: write in Mara Dolan (D); Marilyn Petitto Devaney is a bona fide nutcase who doesn’t deserve your vote or anyone elses, and Dolan should have one the primary and hopefully will win the next time
- Senator in General Court, Suffolk & Middlesex district: no endorsement; I can no longer endorse Will Brownsberger for the reasons I’ve previously explained
- Representative in General Court, seventeenth Suffolk district: no endorsement; I cannot endorse Kevin Honan for the reasons I’ve previously explained
- District Attorney, Suffolk district: write in Ricardo Arroyo (D); Kevin Hayden is a corrupt, status quo prosecutor falsely portraying himself as a reformist while dismantling every reform enacted by his predecessor and refusing to enact any new ones
- Sheriff, Suffolk county: write in Sandy Zamor-Calixte (D). Steven Tompkins is an aggressively carceral sheriff who has never turned down an opportunity to lock someone up. He has collaborated with ICE in the jailing and deportation of undocumented immigrants. He’s chomping at the bit to lock up unhoused people. At least six people have died in his jails in the past year.
- Question 1 (fair share amendment): Yes
- Question 2 (medical loss ratio minimum for dental insurers): Yes
- Question 3 (changes to liquor license laws): Yes
- Question 4 (drivers’ licenses for undocumented immigrants): Yes
The opponents of Questions 1, 2, and 4 have been lying about them since day 1, which is how you know that rich people, corporations, and bigots want you to vote against them, and voting for them is in your best interest and against theirs. If you’ve seen any ads opposing these three questions, rest assured that what they said in the ads isn’t true.
Question 3 is more ambiguous, with individuals and businesses within the same demographic coming down on opposite sides. The deciding factor for me was that some of the groups that oppose Questions 1, 2, and 4 also oppose Question 3, but if that doesn’t persuade you, I can’t say you’d be wrong to vote no.
