BBYO is as bad about junk mail as they are about spam

By | November 22, 2014

I’ll give BBYO credit for one thing: they’re nothing if not consistent.

Readers of my blog may recall my tale of woe of my many attempts over many months to get BBYO to stop spamming my wife.

The spam finally stopped, but I’m sorry to say that I have now been attempting for more than two years to get them to stop sending us junk mail, with no success. I take junk mail seriously, and this is not OK.

Note that BBYO has acknowledged only the first of the five requests I’ve sent them over the past two years. Furthermore, the extent of that one and only acknowledgment was that they couldn’t remove us from their database because they couldn’t find us there (yes, really!). They have sent us junk mail seven times since then.

Think twice before entrusting your children to the care of an organization that is this incompetent.

Below, for your entertainment, is the letter I sent BBYO today.

(Sent via fax and email.)

To whom it may concern:

What the hell is the matter with you people? That is the question that I find myself asking with incredulity on being forced to contact you, yet again, to ask you, yet again, to LEAVE MY FAMILY ALONE.

I emailed you on November 5, 2012 (attached) and asked to be removed from all your postal mailing lists.

You kept sending us junk mail, so I emailed you again on November 29, 2013 (attached).

You kept sending us junk mail, so I faxed BBYO Passport (fax confirmation attached) on December 6, 2013.

You kept sending us junk mail, so I faxed you (fax confirmation attached) on January 1, 2014.

You kept sending us junk mail, so I emailed you again on January 15, 2014 (attached), twice, since my first attempt bounced because an email address published in your privacy policy was bogus. By the way, over ten months later, that bogus email address is still published in your privacy policy.

Since then, you have sent us two additional mailings; the most recent one is attached.

This ongoing struggle to get you to stop sending us postal mail started after an earlier ongoing struggle we had to get you to stop sending us spam email.

I do not know how I can possibly be any more clear about this:

MY FAMILY DOES NOT WANT TO BE CONTACTED IN ANY WAY BY BBYO OR ANY OF ITS AFFILIATED PROGRAMS OR ORGANIZATIONS.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Kamens
