Dear Mayor Menino, My wife and I have lived at [elided] in Brighton since 1997. At least a third of the residential units on our block are rental units, most of which are rented to a different set of Boston College students each year. Some years are good: the students are respectful of the neighborhood,… Read More: BPD: loud 2am parties no problem, loud 2PM parties shut… »
Several months ago, I posted this photo: I claimed at the time that the sign you see in the flatbed truck on the left side of the photo was the new Naked Pizza sign which was in the process of being mounted onto the structure on the right side of the photo. I was wrong.… Read More: “Naked Pizza” sign: setting the record straight »
For some reason lost in the mists of time, I decided at about 7am yesterday that I just had to upgrade my Fedora 14 desktop to Fedora 15. Sometimes I get these weird ideas… I followed the instructions on the Fedora Web site for upgrading using yum, and 2,978 downloaded packages and several hours later,… Read More: Fedora 14 -> Fedora 15 upgrade notes »
Mr. Gelzinis, “Jury nullification” doesn’t mean what you seem to think it does. Please look it up before you make a fool of yourself again misusing the term in another column. For those who use my comics aggregator, note that as of yesterday, the comics.com web site has merged into gocomics.com. I’ve just updated the aggregator to reflect this. The comic strip “That’s Life” appears to have been lost in the shuffle; I’ll check again at some point in the future to see if it resurfaces… Read More: comics.com has merged into gocomics.com »
Last month, I wrote about Google’s surreal attempts to collect from me a debt I don’t actually owe, and my unsuccessful attempts to make it stop. Things have gotten much worse since then. I sent a letter (appended below) to the office of Google’s CEO over a month ago. There has been no response. Today,… Read More: Google AdWords is still staffed by poorly trained monkeys »
I recently posted about MADD’s failure, for over a year, to stop sending me junk mail. I remain somewhat appalled by what happened, but I think it’s important to give credit where credit is due. Since I sent them the complaint which I posted, they have been quite responsive, culminating with this email which I… Read More: MADD cleans up its act »
See When kids are all alone at 10,000m, published May 1 by The New Zealand Herald. The author of the article, Danielle Murray, did a remarkably good job of getting her facts right about what happened to me daughter, with the exception of saying that it happened “in June last year,” when in fact it… Read More: Daughter’s unintentional trip to Newark still occasionally in the news »
