Blast from the past: Boston Globe “special section” on Clinton Impeachment

By | August 6, 2025

I’ve been gradually digitizing my paper files in alphabetical order, and today I got to the “government stuff” file. Here’s something fascinating I found there:

Page A37 of the Sunday, December 20, 1998 edition of The Boston Globe, entitled "The Clinton impeachment / A special report".
Below the title is a photo of Bill Clinton looking sad.
Below that an article with the headline "Promise and loss" and the subhead "Unfinished odyssey: a man in search of himself".

I’m not sure why I saved this. I suppose I thought it was a historic moment of which I might some day appreciate having a souvenir. Little did I know that what I would appreciate, stumbling upon it nearly 30 years later, is the halcyon days when lying about a sexual relationship with an intern was nearly enough for a president to be removed from office.

Of course, the GOP’s hypocrisy hasn’t changed at all. To say that Donald Trump’s misdeeds while in office have exceeded Clinton’s is to lie by understatement, and yet the GOP passed up two attempts to remove the twice-inpeached felon from office, and they continue to toe the line as he daily commits treason and works to destroy America.

Nevertheless, back then I could not possibly have conceived that this is where we would be today. My, how things have changed.

Anyway, should you happen to be curious, below is the full eight-page special report on Clinton’s impeachment from The Boston Globe. Or you can download it from here if the embed is too small to read.
